The Information Scientist in Library and Information Services (LIBRIS) will work closely with other information professionals and support staff in LIBRIS to provide technical and business information services to Eastman employees worldwide. This person will be an integral member of the LIBRIS Leadership Team, which reports to the Director of the Technology Support Services Division. The Information Scientist will interact on a regular basis with both managers and individual contributors globally, in client organizations throughout Eastman and with other service organizations, whose expertise and resources are needed to assist LIBRIS in meeting the needs of its clients. Job Responsibilities: * Conducting retrospective and current awareness searches of appropriate business and technical information resources, as well as of Eastman's proprietary document systems, and providing the results to requesters throughout Eastman's global R&D and business organizations. * Understanding the information needs of Eastman growth teams (including possible membership on teams) and using available text mining and analysis tools to provide team members with information upon which they can base their decisions about pursuit of potential growth opportunities. * Evaluating new information resources and emerging information technologies relevant to Eastman needs, recommending those that should be acquired by LIBRIS, and coordinating the implementation of those that are acquired, including publicity, training, portal integration, etc. * Conducting periodic reviews of information resources offered by LIBRIS to end users, and implementing corrective actions when necessary, to ensure that 1) resources are still needed and most appropriate to meet client needs, 2) users are aware of them, 3) versions are up-to-date, 4) usage is cost-effective, and 5) training needs are being met. * Assessing the information needs of Eastman employees, the extent to which LIBRIS is meeting those needs (including timeliness, quality, and cost-effectiveness), and what changes are required to better serve LIBRIS clients. * Providing orientation and training to LIBRIS users and potential users, and developing publicity and training aids to ensure that users are aware of and competent in the use of LIBRIS information resources and services. Qualifications: * A Masters-level degree from a school of library/information studies that is accredited by the American Library Association or a minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience. * Undergraduate or graduate degrees in business, marketing, chemistry, chemical engineering or related sciences are highly desirable. * Competency in communications and presentations, teamwork and interpersonal skills, and customer focus. * Familiarity with basic/standard computer programs and functions, including Microsoft Office suite of products, and experience using the internet and organizational intranets. * Past relevant experience in the following areas is highly desirable: o Working in or managing corporate library/information centers o Working in or managing corporate proprietary document collections, especially in the chemical industry o Using text-mining and analysis tools o Searching the patent literature and familiarity with worldwide patenting processes and practices o Searching technical and business databases in the chemical industry (e.g., STN/CAS, Derwent, Beilstein, LexisNexis, PIERS) Eastman offers a competitive salary and an impressive array of benefits including: comprehensive health coverage, retirement and 401(k) plans, recognition programs, casual business dress, flexible work schedules, physical fitness and employee recreation centers.
