Minimum Qualifications: Education equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of progressive library experience; or an associate degree in library technology from a two-year technical school or community college and two years of progressive library experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressive library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
License/Certification Required:
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of library principles and practices; experience in building management (opening and closing a facility); strong organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; supervisory experience; and experience with patron (customer) relations. Experience in classroom management, store management, or other public service related fields may be substituted for library experience.
Brief Description of Work for this Position: Position is responsible for services and security during evening hours and on weekends. This includes monitoring building facilities and patron activities, and dealing with any problems that may arise. Provides assistance to both patrons and staff in matters of policy enforcement and dealing with complaints and concerns. Supervises student assistants working nights and weekends, coordinating with day supervisors regarding adequacy of staffing and training. Works with Systems and Technology Services, Information Technology personnel and the WNCLN Network Librarian for the resolution of system and computer problems which may occur during evenings and weekends. Position's work schedule rotates with one other weekend/late night supervisor's schedule. Schedule will vary depending on academic calendar, see information under work schedule.
Physical Demands of Position: Employee must be highly mobile and able to stand for lengthy periods of time. Aside from standing at service desks, the employee must be able to walk, including using the stairs, multiple rounds of the 215,000 square foot building while on duty. In addition, the employee must be readily available to assist service desks or provide individual assistance to patrons needing items in the collections located on any of the five (5) floors.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer facility with using the Web to gather information; experience with automated library systems and bibliographic utilities such as OCLC; facility with standard office software applications, especially MS Word and Excel; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Brief Description of Work for this Position: Order new materials for the Library using library-oriented vendors and other suppliers as appropriate. Import or create bibliographic and order records in the Library's automated system. Receive, facilitate review, and process material received on the Library's book approval plans. Research and order material for the library's special collections such as the Appalachian Collection and the Stock Car Racing Collection. Maintain order records in the library's automated system. Create in-process records for single volumes that come in through serial subscriptions. Train and direct student workers to assist with the approval plans and other acquisitions processes.
Physical Demands of Position: This position requires extended periods of time viewing the computer screen and use of the key board. It is necessary for this position to be able to move quantities of materials around on book carts, to shelve them, and to push boxes up to 50 lbs. around a relatively small area.
