 Duties And Responsibilities
Works w/team of archivists/librarians responsible for processing and original description/cataloging of manuscripts, archival collections, visual materials, and realia in a variety of subject areas, languages, and time periods. Reporting to Associate Librarian of Houghton Library for Technical Services, assists in timely/effective description of manuscript materials; Develops processing plan for manuscript collections as assigned; sorts/arranges/describes materials in an EAD/XML finding aid; Creates MARC records for finished collections in ALEPH/HOLLIS; Assists in accessioning/preprocessing of new manuscript acquisitions; Accessions previously unaccessioned material, focusing on Theatre materials; Performs other duties as needed, and/or made possible by incumbent's subject strengths; May supervise student/hourly/or project staff; job involves moving/lifting heavy cartons up to 40 lbs; significant time spent at computer keyboard, exposure to library-related allergens.

 Required Education, Experience and Skills
Basic Qualifications: B.A. w/MLS, from ALA-accredited academic program preferred, and/or M.A. w/archival concentration required; 2+ yrs exp arranging/describing manuscript/archival materials w/demonstrated exp processing large collections and creating EAD finding aids; familiarity w/MARC & DACS for original cataloging of manuscript materials/authority files/computer applications required; familiarity w/accepted conservation/preservation methods of special collections required; flexibility, versatility/tolerance for change are essential; Reading knowledge of 1+ European languages; Demonstrated proficiency w/computer applications/online bibliographic systems. Other Requirements: Broad knowledge of American and modern European culture/history, supervisory exp highly desirable; demonstrated ability to manage workflow/multiple tasks, attention to detail/complex problem-solving skills; ability to work independently/collaborate in team environment in a cooperative/collegial fashion.

The collections, over 6,000,000+ items, comprise papyri, early European manuscripts, the Hyde collection of Dr. Samuel Johnson, extensive literary manuscripts (including one of the most significant archive of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature), publishing records, photographs, musical scores, philosophical writings, materials documenting the history of printing and graphic arts, theatrical history, as well as political, missionary, and other historical materials.
