POLITICAL PAPERS ARCHIVIST, New Mexico State University Library
The New Mexico State University Library invites applications for the position
of Archives and Special Collections Political Papers Archivist,
Assistant. Req. 2007013363
Founded in 1888, New Mexico State University is a comprehensive land-grant
university and Carnegie designated high research institution. NMSU is a member
of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and is classified as
a Title V Minority Institution by the U.S. Department of Education. The
University is located in the southern New Mexico city of Las Cruces, which

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Archives and Special
Collections Department Head, the Political Papers Archivist arranges,
describes, and makes physically and electronically accessible the political and
congressional papers of the department; provides reference and outreach
services to patrons and researchers; supervises staff; provides training on
aspects of the use of the political and congressional collections; works
closely with others in the department; special projects as assigned. As a
member of the university library faculty, the candidate would be responsible
for achieving in the following areas: Librarianship, Research,
Publication, and Creative Activity, and Service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: An ALA-accredited Master's in Library Science with
concentration in archives coursework; 3 to 5 years experience as an archivist
working with and managing political/congressional papers. Experience with
description and arrangement of archival and manuscript collections; Experience
and background in processing large political/congressional collections;
Familiarity with descriptive standards including EAD, MARC, and DACS;
experience with/or understanding of digitization technologies. The
successful candidate shall possess excellent oral and written communication
skills and have the ability to establish and maintain collegial relationships;
must be skilled in public speaking and travel may be required.
Preferred: Additional graduate degree in a related field (eg.
history or political science, concentration of coursework in archives).

appointment, tenure track position. Salary: $33,500 (entry level)
