-Three additional years of documented programming experience using C, C++, or similar language in Windows or Linux environment can be substituted for bachelor's degree. 

(Currently installed server platforms include Windows 2003 Server, Solaris and Linux.) 

-Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of staff; ability to work productively in teams; knowledge of data structures; ability to learn new programming languages as required. 

-Individual should be able to work independently with limited technical guidance in the analysis, development, and maintenance of software applications or modules.       Preferred Qualifications   -Master's degree in an information systems related field. 

-Experience writing programs & scripts for the CGI environment (Perl, PHP, Javabeans/Tomcat); experience programming in a UNIX environment. 

-Experience programming with any of the following languages or tools: Perl, Java, HTML, SQL. 

-Experience maintaining and de-bugging live software systems. 

-Experience writing program documentation. 

-Experience using and operating in a Unix or Linux environment. 

-Experience with and detailed knowledge of C/C++. 

-Experience with XML, MS SQL Server, and MySQL. 

-Knowledge of current hardware and operating systems (Windows, Linux, and UNIX (Solaris) systems) and standard development tools (including CVS and editors). 

-Ability to determine whether a particular problem is caused by hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures. 

-The above skills should be documented by a combination of experience and education (courses in data structures, database systems, software engineering).       Job Description   The Programmer, under the supervision of the Manager, Systems Operations & Support, works to develop and integrate web-based applications delivering library and information services to the public. The Programmer also helps to develop programs, support systems and productivity tools for system administrators, desktop support personnel, and other staff. The Programmer is expected to participate in system analysis and development in a team environment, with support and direction from other library staff, to keep our systems current with changing technologies. The Programmer is expected to be available for emergency response as needed to correct system failures. In coordination with other Systems staff, the Programmer participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of student workers.
