Archivist Position, Austin, Texas

National Instruments
National Instruments in Austin, Texas, seeks an energetic and resourceful
Corporate Archivist to manage its archival program. The Archivist oversees all
aspects of the program including appraising, accessioning, processing,
arranging, and describing collection documents, and providing internal
reference services; determines and writes policies and procedures for the
archives; performs research for employees; creates and maintains displays of
collection materials, and markets the archives to the company.
The Archivist may also hire and supervise interns; conduct oral histories; and
research and implement an archival database system. The Archives houses paper
documents, hardware and software products, photographic materials, and
artifacts.
Further responsibility includes overseeing the records management (RM) program.
The Archivist acts as liaison between NI and the records storage facility,
coordinates annual records destruction, assists employees with RM questions,
and maintains the retention schedule.
Essential functions of the job include the following:
· Appraising, accessioning, processing, arranging, and
describing collection documents, and providing internal reference services.
· Actively solicit and acquire material for the archives from
various departments.
· Write and/or revise policies and procedures for the
archives.
· Create and maintain displays of collection materials.
· Build relationships and market the archives to the company.
· Perform research for employees.
The following qualifications and experience are required:
· Masters in library and information science from an
ALA-accredited institution with concentration in archival enterprise OR a
Bachelors from a four-year accredited institution and a Certified Archivist or
Certified Records Management credential.
· 2-5 years experience in a corporate archives environment.
· Thorough understanding of archival principles, practices,
and procedures
· Strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and writing
skills
· Familiarity with records management practices
· Initiative and resourcefulness; ability to plan and work
independently; proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with databases;
attention to detail; ability to lift up to 50 pounds
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
The following qualifications and experience are preferred:
· Knowledge of business practices or experience in private
business
· Knowledge of electronic records issues and solutions
· Familiarity with field of engineering technology helpful,
but not essential
· Familiarity with Lotus Notes, Adobe Acrobat and PhotoShop
