Working Title:  ARCHIVIST ASSISTANT    
Class Title:  Library Assistant I    
Department:  Library    
This is a Temporary Position to be continued, if funding is available 

The Archives Assistant is an entry level position which will support the

University Archivist in collection management and collection processing 
of current and future special collection materials. The Assistant will 
also work closely with faculty, staff, students, and the general public 
in facilitation of a variety of daily archival activity.    

General Responsibilities:  Works with the archivist to organize, 
describe, preserve, display, and make available to researchers, archival

material consisting of University records and University Special 
Collections of continuing value. 

Duties may include:  

Scanning and digitally photographing material for archival databases and

University Archive web site. 

Assisting patrons in using the collection. 

Assisting faculty, staff, and students, and the outside community with 
campus history questions. 

Requirements of Position:  Bachelor's degree (or higher) in history, 
archives, museum, library, or special collections. 

One year experience working in an archive. 

Demonstrated ability in processing archival material of various types 
and formats, utilizing standard and professional archival methodology. 

Demonstrated knowledge of archival standards and procedures. 

Demonstrated awareness of patron archival procedures, security concerns,

and security procedures. 

Demonstrated working knowledge and sufficient usage experience in 
word-processing software (such as Microsoft Word) and the Internet. 
Knowledge of Excel and/or Access helpful. 

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in 
writing. 

Demonstrated ability to work productively with faculty, staff, students,

and the general public in their research endeavors. 

Working knowledge of scanner and digital camera. 

Other Requirements: 

Good penmanship. 

Ability to lift 20 pounds. 

Must be detailed-oriented, congenial, patient, self starter, and 
reliable.
