Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks a Technical Services / Reference Librarian
for a law firm in located Northern Virginia.
The Librarian will provide support to the attorneys and staff of the firm
with responsibilities including: checking-in, cataloging, processing, and
ordering of all library materials, maintaining the appearance of the library
collection, and providing reference service using print and non-print resources.
Responsibilities:
- Work under the general supervision of the Library
Manager;
- Check-in, routing, cataloging, and processing of all
library materials utilizing the firm's online library system
(SydneyPlus);
- Ordering new library materials;
- Preparing invoices for payment, cancellation, returns
and claims;
- Monitoring and updating routing lists;
- Maintain the appearance of the library collection, and
maintaining current awareness bulletin boards;
- Provide reference services to attorneys and staff
using print and non-print resources, answering questions ranging from simple
reference queries to complex research problems.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library Science from an
ALA-accredited school AND a minimum of 2 years of library experience in a
library or information center;
- Must have a firm knowledge of online resources such as
Lexis, Westlaw, Dialog, Courtlink, etc;
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent
interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced
environment,
- Must be able to provide reference services on a broad
range of practice groups, including intellectual property, government
contracts, tax, executive compensation and benefits, real estate, and
healthcare;
- Participate in ILL and document delivery;
- Participate in professional and skill development
opportunities and other duties as needed;
- Have the desire to develop skills and abilities as a
patent librarian;
- Knowledge of SydneyPlus is helpful.
