Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks a Technical Services / Reference Librarian for a law firm in located Northern Virginia.  The Librarian will provide support to the attorneys and staff of the firm with responsibilities including: checking-in, cataloging, processing, and ordering of all library materials, maintaining the appearance of the library collection, and providing reference service using print and non-print resources.

 

 

Responsibilities: 

• Work under the general supervision of the Library Manager;
• Check-in, routing, cataloging, and processing of all library materials utilizing the firm's online library system (SydneyPlus);
• Ordering new library materials;
• Preparing invoices for payment, cancellation, returns and claims;
• Monitoring and updating routing lists;
• Maintain the appearance of the library collection, and maintaining current awareness bulletin boards;
• Provide reference services to attorneys and staff using print and non-print resources, answering questions ranging from simple reference queries to complex research problems.  

 

Qualifications:

 

• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school AND a minimum of 2 years of library experience in a library or information center;
• Must have a firm knowledge of online resources such as Lexis, Westlaw, Dialog, Courtlink, etc;
• Meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment,
• Must be able to provide reference services on a broad range of practice groups, including intellectual property, government contracts, tax, executive compensation and benefits, real estate, and healthcare;
• Participate in ILL and document delivery;
• Participate in professional and skill development opportunities and other duties as needed;
• Have the desire to develop skills and abilities as a patent librarian;
• Knowledge of SydneyPlus is helpful.
