The Pennsylvania Heritage Society, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Archives, seeks an experienced archivist to assist in implementing a two-and-a-half year grant project made possible by funds from the NHPRC. The full-time project archivist would be hired for a limited term of twenty-four months, and will provide on-site assistance to ten county governments with establishing or maintaining records management and archival programs. The Pennsylvania counties chosen to participate in this unique project will be located in the southwest region of the state in the first year, and will be located in the northeast region of the state in year two of the project.  In order to optimize grant funding, the incumbent will spend all of his/her time providing said assistance.

Duties during the grant period will include training and education of county officials; consultation; surveying and identifying county records for destruction, microfilming, or permanent storage; working with existing Records Improvement Committees; compilation of disaster preparedness and vital records plans; prioritizing potential grant projects and assisting with grant-writing; and assessing records storage areas and offering recommendations. Incumbent may also be called upon to make both formal and informal presentations to interested groups about the status of the project. Other related duties may arise as the project progresses.
