Subject: [archives] Processing position, Mayo Clinic Historical Unit, Rochester, MN

Dear Colleagues,

I am posting a link to a "Library/Historical Archives Specialist I" position, but because our institution is moving toward generic job descriptions and our jobs fall within the Library purview, we have to use the generic library job description wording. The result is that it is a little hard to tell from the description on our website that this is actually an entry-level archival processing technician job.  Here’s the link: https://www.applicationssite.org/recruit/servlet/com.lawson.ijob.RequisitionDetails?reqId=60730

Essentially the position processes archival materials and performs routine preservation tasks; assists with moving and shelving cartons of records and handles sorting, re-housing and arrangement of files. Assists with physical condition assessments and creates container lists. Consults with the Historical Archives Librarian on the care, handling, and preservation of materials as needed. Will provide some information and reference support to archive users and colleagues, and may perform tasks that support services, maintain workload or provide coverage in the work unit (i.e. "other duties as assigned!").

And though this is listed as a temporary 1 year position, it is benefits eligible and there is a possibility that it may turn into a regular position.

The Mayo Clinic Historical Unit is a fabulous place to work—the staff is hardworking but humorous and they share their chocolate!
