Required qualifications: Doctorate in library and information science or closely allied discipline, or completion of the doctorate during the first year of appointment; demonstrated skills with current information technology and demonstrated potential as a researcher and instructor. The successful candidate(s) will be competent with information and communications technologies, services to multicultural populations, and interdisciplinary approaches to information problems. The candidate will have a research agenda, expertise and ability to teach in one or more of the traditional library science core, including but not limited the following areas: technical services, information storage/retrieval, database design and management, information transfer; information literacy; instructional design; school library media centers and services to children. Faculty are expected to participate in development and delivery of courses via the Internet; be proactive in grant and proposal writing, research and publishing; be contributing members of the library and information communities; and serve on faculty and university committees. Southern Miss is a doctoral/ research-extensive Carnegie institution with more than 16,000 students on two primary campuses in Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast. Salary will commensurate with qualifications. Preferred starting date is August 16, 2008 but may be negotiated. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2007.
