POSITION TITLE:  Reference/Subject Librarian (South Asian Studies)

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  The Reference/Subject Librarian provides broad-based reference services as well as specialized services for scholars in South Asian studies.  He or she participates in user education and in the department’s exploration, evaluation, and implementation of emergent information technologies. Stays abreast of technology trends and contributes to the integration of  new technologies to improve users’ experience. Works closely with South Asian studies faculty and students in building relevant library collections.  Reports to Head of Reference.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
   
MLS from an ALA accredited library school.
Academic background in the  history and civilization of South Asia; degree preferred
South Asian language skills (Hindi or Urdu preferred)
Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer services
Ability to work with and collaborate effectively with diverse staff, students, and faculty, in an atmosphere of mutual respect
Demonstrated written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience in the provision of reference services and/or collection development in an academic library, desirable
Familiarity with electronic information technologies and/or emergent technologies (i.e. blogs, wikis, podcasting, RSS, etc.)
