Web Services Librarian --  University of Utah -- Utah
 

The University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Library seeks an innovative
assistant/associate librarian to oversee the development of the
library's web services and provide services to faculty, staff, and
students.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the
development and oversight of the library's web presence.
Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Head of Application Development,
the Web Services Librarian will manage and coordinate the development and
content management of the Marriott Library's web site
(http://www.lib.utah.edu), including the establishment of an ongoing
usability testing and assessment program.  The successful candidate will
design and deliver appropriate training and documentation, and will chair
the Online Library Exchange committee, which provides guidance in the
practices relative to the library's web environment.  He/she will work
with the library's web development team and other appropriate staff, and
serve as liaison to academic departments and the University of Utah Office
of Information Technology.  The Web Services Librarian maintains skills and
knowledge of current and emerging technologies necessary for providing
access to library services and digital resources in an online environment.
Required Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS degree and at least 3
years relevant experience; demonstrated user-centered web design, site
organization, and site development skills using content management systems
or development tools (i.e. Dreamweaver, FrontPage), as well as the ability
to troubleshoot and customize code using XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
ability to work with and support a wide variety of personnel; ability to
start, manage, and complete multiple detail-oriented projects
simultaneously; demonstrated ability to think critically and analytically;
strong user service focus and a commitment to providing excellent and
innovative service; evidence of strong written and verbal communication
skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse
population; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with
others in a team environment; ability to work in a complex and rapidly
changing environment; ability to meet University and Library requirements
for retention, promotion and continuing appointment (tenure equivalency). 

Preferred Qualifications:  An awareness of library and internet
vendors as well as trends and innovations in web-based products, W3C
standards, and usability testing; ability to design and illustrate web
sites with graphic design software (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.);
experience working in an academic library environment; recent web services
management experience in an academic library.
Salary:  $50,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications.
