Emory University in Atlanta announces the following position openings:

Metadata Librarian (2)


The Emory University Libraries invites applications for two new Metadata
Librarian positions. We seek candidates with a flexible and forward-thinking
approach to challenges and opportunities. Implementation of an aggressive
strategic plan is underway and among the initiatives affecting this position
are numerous digital projects, a mass digitization project, and the
development and implementation of next generation search, discovery and

Responsibilities: The Metadata Librarian provides leadership and guidance to
evaluate and apply appropriate metadata schemas for description and access
to digital content acquired or created by the General Libraries.  S/he works
with the Metadata and Advanced Cataloging Team Leader and the Technical
Services Coordinating Group in determining resource allocations for digital
projects, including a digitization program. Key responsibilities include:

*       Analyzes digital project requirements and develops strategies for
the creation of appropriate metadata to provide description and access for
textual and non-textual digital objects; contributes to the formulation and
implementation of the General Libraries' local policies and standards for
metadata; participates in metadata creation, remediation and transformation;
and serves as resource for staff in all university libraries;
*       Collaborates with staff in digital programs and the digital curation
center in the evaluation of project requests and implementations; works with
the team leader and others to establish workflows; and maintains
documentation;
*       Trains staff in metadata implementation and creation for digital
objects; and
*       Participates in the library's research and development efforts and
contributes to local and national discussions on the full range of metadata
issues.

Qualifications: Education, Experience & Training: Requires ALA accredited
MLS and minimum of one year professional experience applying a non-MARC
metadata schema and standard; record of active involvement in professional
activities.  Preferred: cataloging experience in an academic library and
experience with SIRSI Unicorn. Knowledge, Skills, Ability: The successful
candidate will have broad knowledge of cataloging principles and of non-MARC
metadata schemas (particularly XML, MODS, Dublin Core, VRA Core or EAD),
standards, best practices, and applications. Proven excellence in
communication, interpersonal and time-management skills; strong service
orientation; ability to work independently and as part of a team in a
dynamic environment. Current awareness of national trends and developments
in metadata standards and information retrieval.  Demonstrated project
planning and management abilities; analytical and problem-solving skills;
aptitude for complex, detailed work.

Salary and Benefits: Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and
