The University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries seeks an energetic individual
to join the Pendergrass Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine Library team
as the Reference Librarian for Agricultural Sciences and Natural
Resources.  This librarian will provide creative and innovative user
services in the library's highly collaborative environment and serve as
liaison to an important multidisciplinary education and research
community at UT's Institute of Agriculture.  Responsibilities emphasize
outreach to students and faculty through consultation and instruction.
Management of a $300,000 collections budget is required.
 
The Institute of Agriculture (http://www.agriculture.utk.edu) includes
UT's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the College
of Veterinary Medicine, UT Extension, and the Experiment Station, and
includes the departments of Animal Science, Agricultural Extension
Education, Biosystems Engineering & Environmental Sciences, Entomology &
Plant Pathology, Plant Sciences, Food Science & Technology, Agricultural
Economics, and Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries.  The librarian reports to
the head of the Pendergrass Library.

The librarian delivers general services and subject-specific reference
assistance to the Pendergrass Library's clientele.  The librarian
promotes the library, educates about issues in scholarly communications,
and seeks opportunities to contribute in a library committed to
user-centered services.
 
 
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's.  Demonstrable service
orientation and understanding of library services in a research
university.  Experience or course work in bibliography and reference
services. Knowledge of scientific literature and publishing trends.
Commitment to promoting information literacy.  Excellent technological
skills.  Evidence of ability to work collegially.
 
Preferred Qualifications:  Experience or preparation for teaching.
Academic background in science or a field of agriculture.  Experience in
science reference, preferably in an academic library.  Experience
creating and maintaining Web resources.  Evidence of research or
creative achievement.

Salary and Benefits:
Appointment at rank of Assistant Professor.  Minimum salary is $42,000.
Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library
faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.
Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state
retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for
the employee by the University; optional group health and life insurance
plans. Tuition remission is available for all university employees;
partial undergraduate tuition remission is available to dependent
children and spouses of UT employees.
