SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY -- PAID POSITION

The EDITORIAL LIBRARY at The Columbus Dispatch, 34 S. Third St. in
Downtown Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a Summer 2008 intern.

If you have experience in or an interest in exploring one or more of
these areas, we’d like to hear from you:

* News research
* Training end-users on library information tools
* Working with new technologies
* Digital image archiving/collection development
* Database design

The internship is full-time (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday)
and offers a competitive salary.  Starting/ending dates will be determined based on candidate's availability.  Usually begins in late May or early June and lasts 12 weeks.

Candidate must be a self-starter and have a keen interest in current events.

The Dispatch Library staff provides reference and research service to
reporters and editors.  The Library staff also builds and maintains
digital archives for text, photos, graphics and PDFs; a department
research Intranet and wiki; and a collection of reference books and serials.
We have access to numerous electronic resources and historical collections.

The intern's responsibilities may include:

* Providing reference service
* Training intern journalists on library research tools and techniques
* Developing or packaging content for our research Intranet, including a Newsroom Wiki/Knowledge Base
* Assisting in the archiving of items of various formats into our databases
* Working with data files, records and library systems and materials

We will train on technical skills.
