TWO TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO,
STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK: 1) Director of the School Library Media
(SLM) program and 2) Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis in
Organization of Knowledge, Digital Libraries or Digital Archives

We will be interviewing at ALISE. Below are the two descriptions.

  The Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) is seeking two new
  colleagues who are committed to excellence in research and teaching, and who
  wish to play an active role in shaping the future direction of the department
  and MLS program as the DLIS moves into our new academic home, the Graduate
  School of Education.

  We currently have two full time tenure track faculty positions as described
  below. The positions are expected to begin August 2008.

  POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

  Director of the School Library Media (SLM) program

  Description of Duties:

  The position requires directing the School Library Media (SLM) program,
  overseeing student teaching experiences, and participating in regional,
  state, and national SLM organizations. Duties require teaching one or more of
  the following SLM courses: youth resources and services, the curriculum role
  of the school library media specialist, management of the school library
  media center, or computer applications in the school library media center.
  The candidate is expected to conduct research, publish, participate in
  efforts to receive external funding, establish and maintain
  cross-disciplinary connections, and participate in appropriate departmental,
  school, university and community service activities.
  Appointment can be at the Associate or higher rank, depending on
  qualifications.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Qualifications include: Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies or related
  field. The preferred candidate will also hold an MLS.  Appointment at the
  Associate Professor or Professor rank requires a record of research and
  publication with evidence of teaching excellence. Experience as a School
  Library Media Specialist and knowledge of requirements for SLM certification
  is a definite advantage.

  Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis in Organization of
  Knowledge, Digital Libraries or Digital Archives

  Description of Duties:

  Conduct research, publish, and teach courses in three or more of the
  following areas:  information organization, cataloging, metadata, digital
  libraries and digital archives, and information architecture.
  Responsibilities also include student advising and participation in
  appropriate departmental, school, university and community service
  activities.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Qualifications include the MLS (preferred) and Ph.D., either completed or
  near completion, in Library and Information Studies or related field.
  Appointment at Assistant Professor rank requires demonstrated potential for
  research, scholarship and excellence in teaching, and a commitment to
  service. Appointment at the Associate Professor rank requires a record of
  research and publication with evidence of teaching excellence.

  ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
  The Department of Library and Information Studies is one of four departments
  within the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo.
  The Library and Information Studies program has a well-established MLS degree
  with specializations in library studies, information science, and school
  library media. The programs offered include:
        Master in Library Science (MLS) degree
        MLS with focus on school, public, academic, or special libraries
        MLS with a simultaneous JD Program in Law Librarianship
        MLS with a simultaneous music degree in Music Librarianship
        Advanced Studies Certificate
