Vizcaya consists of 14 National Historic Landmark buildings on 50 acres of grounds, with 2,500 art objects and 35,000 archival items. The archives consist of photographs, manuscripts, documents, correspondence, ephemera and architectural drawings and blueprints. Most of these materials pertain to the conception, design and construction of Vizcaya's main house, the gardens and the adjacent village. The museum is in midst of developing new programs to engage the local community in learning through the arts, history, and the environment, and embarking on a government-funded $50-million capital program to rehabilitate the main house, gardens, and the Vizcaya village, which will open to the public for the first time. Vizcaya attracts approximately 150,000 visitors each year. The Vizcaya Archivist reports to the Collections and Archives Manager and is the primary person responsible for the physical and intellectual management, preservation and reproduction of Vizcaya's archives, initially in particular its architectural records. Responsibilities include physically organizing and preserving materials; intellectually arranging materials, describing and cataloging; developing and implementing a digitization plan for blueprints and architectural drawings, and selecting and preparing materials for digitization; responding to requests from and retrieving documents for contractors, engineers, conservators and researchers, and providing (digital) copies. Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Art History, or related field is required. Two years of professional experience in a museum, library or archive environment appraising, arranging and describing manuscripts and archival material is required. Master's degree in Library Science, Museum Studies or related field is preferred. Experience with digitization of archival material is highly desired, as is experience working with architectural records. The position requires a self-motivated individual, able to work independently, able to lift up to 35 pounds and work on a ladder. Must obtain or possess a valid Florida driver's license.
