Director of the Library --  Birmingham-Southern College -- Alabama
 
BSCBirmingham-Southern CollegeDirector of the Library
Birmingham-Southern College invites nominations and applications for the
position of Director of the Library. Located in Birmingham, Alabama,
Birmingham-Southern is a highly selective, national liberal arts college
enrolling approximately 1400 students. The Charles Andrew Rush Learning
Center/N. E. Miles Library is home to over 306,000 books; over 37,000
audio-visual items; 1800 print and electronic periodicals, and maintains
direct access to some 27,000 serials titles and 135 online databases. The
library serves as a selective Federal document depository and participates
as a member of the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), the Network of
Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL), and the libraries section of the
Associated Colleges of the South (ACS).The Director of the Library reports
directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and will
hold tenure-track Faculty status and be appointed at the rank of Assistant
or Associate Professor in accordance with relevant professional experience
and demonstrated professional performance. The successful candidate will
have dynamic and creative leadership capabilities, a vision for the future
of libraries that will advance the mission and goals of undergraduate
liberal arts education, will be an effective communicator and will be
ready to work with the entire campus community on developing a plan for
the future space needs of the library. The Director supervises 5 faculty
librarians and 7 staff members. Minimum required qualifications include a
Master's Degree in Library Science or an equivalent degree from an ALA
accredited institution, at least five years of administrative and
supervisory experience in an academic library, demonstrated knowledge of
and experience implementing innovative technologies in the library
program, and a strong commitment to the mission and goals of undergraduate
liberal arts education. A second Master's degree or Ph.D. is preferred. For
