DEAN , COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND PSYCHOLOGY THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN
MISSISSIPPI
The University of Southern Mississippi seeks a highly motivated academic
leader to direct the College of Education and Psychology and assist the
president in the continued growth and development of the University. The
dean reports directly to the provost and works with other deans to provide
administrative leadership to the campus.The responsibilities of the
position include administrative oversight and leadership in the areas of
academic affairs, budget, faculty development, personnel decisions,
planning, research, and fund raising. The dean should be committed to
working with faculty, staff, and administration to achieve academic
excellence in research and teaching; in providing service to the
community; and in advancing the University's goals of diversity, equal
opportunity, and affirmative action.The College of Education and
Psychology has nationally recognized and accredited programs and enjoys
strong relationships with numerous federal, state, and local agencies
necessary for funding, accreditation, and instructional support. The
departments and schools that comprise the College include: Child and
Family Studies; Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education;
Educational Leadership and Research; Library and Information Science;
Psychology; and Technology Education.The College has 112 faculty members
and an enrollment of more than 2,700 majors, including doctoral,
specialist, masters, and undergraduate students. Programs offered by the
College are distributed across the University's strategically located
campuses in Hattiesburg (main campus) and on the Gulf Coast. The
University of Southern Mississippi is a comprehensive doctoral and
research University founded in 1910. Located in culturally diverse and
economically dynamic southern Mississippi, students, faculty, and staff
benefit from a climate that fosters year-round outdoor activities and a
quality of life characterized by a reasonable cost of living, coupled with
easy access to major metropolitan areas such as New Orleans, LA, Mobile,
AL, and Jackson, MS.One of the three major universities in the State of
Mississippi with a fall 2007 enrollment of 14,592 students, The University
of Southern Mississippi is ranked as a Carnegie Comprehensive Doctoral
University and as a Southeastern Regional Education Board Class I
university. It is the only comprehensive university in the state to have
been designated dual-campus status by the Board of Trustees of the
Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Since 2006, the university
has generated an average of $100 million per year in external funding.
Qualifications Required:* A terminal degree in a relevant discipline;* A
record that merits appointment at a senior level and the award of tenure
in an academic unit of the college;* Established record as a successful
administrator with a minimum of three years of experience;* Established
record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.* Established
record of success in promoting excellence in scholarship, teaching, and
service;* Established record of success with budget management;*
Established record of successful relations with community organizations,
public or private agencies, and other external relations;* Successful
experience with and commitment to national and regional accreditation
agencies relevant to units of the college.Qualifications Desired:*
Experience in implementing and supporting diversity initiatives; *
Experience in an educational environment consistent with the diversity of
the College's disciplines;* Effective interpersonal and communication
skills that promote collegiality among faculty and staff;* Experience in
evaluation of faculty for tenure and promotion purposes;* Experience in
curriculum and program development and assessment;* Experience with
managing units at dual campuses;* Successful experience in securing or
facilitating external funding;* Successful experience with NCATE.Salary is
