Head, Metadata Services & Digital Projects

The University of Oregon (Eugene) Libraries invites applications and
nominations for the position of Head, Metadata Services & Digital Projects
(MSDP). Departmental services include metadata creation and maintenance,
coordination and support of digital collections, and conservation and
re-formatting of library resources. 
This position will have overall responsibility for: providing
innovative leadership and vision in the provision of bibliographic
services; providing leadership for traditional and non-traditional
metadata creation and management in the face of changing standards, user
expectations and tools; overseeing the planning, implementation, and
evaluation of the libraries' digital collections; collaborating in
building and maintaining Scholars Bank, the UO's institutional repository;
providing leadership in the preservation of the libraries' collections
(print, non-print, and digital); serving as the libraries' metadata
liaison to campus and external grant-funded digital projects; supervising
seven ranked librarians, two managers, and 21 classified support staff.
The successful candidate will support and enhance a diverse learning and
working environment. Reports to the Associate University Librarian for
Collections & Access.
Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in
library science; significant post-MLS experience in cataloging and
metadata operations; experience with substantial digital projects and
initiatives; successful supervisory experience; demonstrated skill in
planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of others; knowledge of
current standards, trends, and emerging technologies in metadata services,
including those related to digital libraries; knowledge of various metadata
formats; familiarity with the principles, standards, and technological
framework of digital preservation; ability to manage multiple
responsibilities in a dynamic and changing environment; excellent oral and
written communication and analytic skills. Desired: 5 years or more
professional experience; management experience in an academic research
library; experience with project management; record of achievement in
national professional associations; additional graduate degree.
