The Head Librarian promotes library resource development, leadership in U.S. Latin American librarianship, national and international collaboration with other Latin American libraries, collections, and librarians, relations with national and international leaders in the field, and relations with other organizations on campus and in Texas focusing on various aspects of the culture, economics, life, and study of Latin American countries. The Head Librarian participates in development, fundraising, and grant writing activities and reports to the Vice-Provost and Director of the University of Texas Libraries.The Benson Latin American Collection:The Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/benson/), a unit of the University of Texas Libraries, is one of the pre-eminent Latin American libraries in the United States and the world. It is a comprehensive collection of Latin American and U.S. Latino materials in all subject areas, humanities, fine arts, the social sciences, and natural sciences, and in all formats. The Benson Collection maintains important holdings for all countries of Latin America with special concentrations on Mexico, the countries of the Río de la Plata, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Central America. The Mexican American Library Program, established in 1974, has gathered extensive research materials in all subject areas related to the U.S. Southwest and Latino culture in the United States.
