The successful candidates will be required to: have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited school; have excellent oral and written communication skills; have the ability to work well with others and to provide leadership within the diverse settings of a complex university organization; and, have a strong service ethic and demonstrated appreciation for and effectiveness with a diverse student body. Successful candidates will be required to meet the University Libraries' criteria for promotion and tenure which include conducting research, teaching, participating on library and university committees, and serving in professional organizations. APPLIED SCIENCES LIBRARIANUnder the direction of the Head of the Science & Technology Library, oversees collection development, provides library related instruction, and serves as liaison to the following academic departments: Geology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Provides reference service at the Science and Technology Library, including one evening per week. Required Qualifications* Educational background in the natural or applied sciences or an engineering discipline, or professional experience in an academic library working with science or engineering disciplines * Expertise in electronic access to data and Web-based information services.Preferred Qualifications* Broad knowledge of the science and engineering disciplines * Knowledge of the literature of science and engineering including patents, technical reports, and conference proceedings * Knowledge of databases in science, allied health, and engineering * Experience creating and maintaining Web pages * Graduate degree in science or engineering is highly desirable.GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS/REFERENCE LIBRARIANUnder the direction of the Head of Reference, provides oversight over the University Libraries' U.S. Government Documents collection and ensures ongoing compliance with the Federal Depository Library Program Guidelines. Serves as a major resource within the Reference Department relating to questions that involve the collecting and use of government documents, keeping colleagues inside the department and the University Libraries apprised of changes in the field. Provides leadership in transitioning the program from one based primarily on a print collection to one that is Web-based. Works closely with teaching faculty to encourage use of the documents collection. Maintains the Government Documents section of the University Libraries website. Represents the library and its documents programs in local, state, regional, and national forums. Represents the Library's interests in local and state forums for cooperative collection development. Serves as the major resource person for performing arts reference and research activities, provides direct reference service at the reference desk and through IM chat reference and email reference, and works with others on the organization, processing, and service of particular special subject collections, including archives of the Smith Publications and of the Guitar Foundation of America; University Libraries has just received an NEH grant to digitize early publications from the Guitar Foundation of America Archives. Performs complex copy-cataloging and original cataloging of rare books, special collections monographs, archival and manuscript collections, ephemera, artifacts, and materials in non-print formats following best cataloging practices and local policies appropriate to the materials. Shares in library-wide cataloging policy decision making. Documents procedures for the cataloging manual. Provides training to paraprofessionals as needed. Serves as a resource person for cataloging and classification questions.Required Qualifications* Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging/metadata principles, practices, and trends as evidenced by: Familiarity with cataloging tools such as AACR2rev, LCRIs, LCSH, Library of Congress Classification, and MARC * Awareness of and commitment to national and international cataloging standards, including those pertaining to archive and special collections materials * Demonstrated awareness of new and emerging standards and technologies relevant to bibliographic control and metadata and a commitment to their effective application * Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills * Evidence of excellent computer skills * Ability to work flexibly in a team environment.Preferred Qualifications* Experience cataloging rare and/or special collections, including archival materials * Familiarity with the archival standards for describing archives, personal papers, and manuscript collections: Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)* Formal coursework or training in manuscripts, ephemera, artifacts, special collections, and/or archival librarianship * Experience using OCLC Connexion and INNOPAC/ Millennium * Experience applying metadata to finding aids and digital primary sources utilizing Encoded Archival Description (EAD) or other appropriate metadata schema * Experience in preservation and conservation library resources * Reading knowledge of at least one modern Western language, German preferred.
