Serials and Electronic Resources Catalog Librarian --  Tulane University

SERIALS AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES CATALOG LIBRARIAN, 
Tulane University, New Orleans

Howard-Tilton Memorial Library seeks a dedicated cataloger to join the
Technical Services Division. The division consists of 26 support staff and
8 librarians.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Head of Cataloging, the Serials and
Electronic Resources Cataloger is responsible for cataloging serials and
electronic resources; provides maintenance for bibliographic linkages to
electronic resources; serves as resource person for serials and electronic
resources. Performs original and complex copy cataloging of serials and
electronic resources in all formats and languages, using international
cataloging standards. Contributes records as part of the Program for
Cooperative Cataloging, including CONSER. Serves as the Technical Services
resource person for serials and electronic resources cataloging; resolves
serials and electronic resources cataloging problems referred by other
library staff; provides training for cataloging of serials and electronic
resources. Cataloging is completed using OCLC Connexion, Ex Libris
Voyager, LC's Cataloger's Desktop, and other electronic cataloging tools.
Participates in policy-making processes relating to cataloging.
REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS. Minimum two years cataloging
experience that includes original cataloging as a professional cataloger
in an academic library. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of LC
classification, LCSH, LCRI, and the MARC 21 formats for bibliographic,
authority, and holdings data. Excellent oral and written communication
skills; effective interpersonal skills; ability to function as a
contributing team member in a production-oriented environment; strong
service orientation; flexibility in adapting to changing organizational
priorities; strong analytical skills
and organizational abilities.
PREFERRED: Experience cataloging serials and/or electronic
resources; serials and electronic resources management familiarity;
CONSER, BIBCO, and/or NACO experience. Knowledge of, or familiarity
with, a European language.
ENVIRONMENT: Tulane University is an AAU institution located in
picturesque uptown New Orleans. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is the
university's main library, an ARL research collection supporting programs
in the humanities, social sciences, and the sciences.
COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Librarians have academic status, without tenure or faculty
rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members.
