Kilgore College Position Vacancy Announcement POSITION Technical Services Librarian DESCRIPTION Kilgore College is a comprehensive public community college with a campus in Kilgore and an extension center in Longview, Texas. With approximately 5,000 students, we are a student-centered institution characterized by excellence in teaching and learning. The Randolph C. Watson Library, located in the heart of campus, provides and maintains spacious reading and study areas, over 120,000 volumes of books, 20,000 audio-visual items, on-line databases, and the Bone Learning Center Computer Lab with Internet access. RESPONSIBILITIES This position is responsible for the oversight of Cataloging, Acquisitions, and Systems areas of the library. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, responsibility for the original and complex copy cataloging of materials in all formats, subject areas and languages; database maintenance, authority and workflow issues; participating in the planning, development, and management of a broad range of library electronic services such as system management of the library automation system and databases; and supervising and/or assisting other library personnel or student assistants in areas of library technical services. In addition, all librarians are expected to serve in regular reference rotation including nights and weekends. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of a master's degree in library science from an accredited library program and experience with an integrated online system (Voyager preferred) are required. Strong analytical skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and strong problem solving and organizational skills are necessary. In addition, the successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience with print, electronic and web based resources; excellent computer skills especially in Excel and Access; demonstrated knowledge of trends in cataloging and national standards for bibliographic control; knowledge of AACR2, OCLC, MARC, LCSH, LC and Dewey Classification; the ability to provide effective reference and research assistance; and the ability and flexibility to work in a changing environment and within several areas of library services and operations. SALARY RANGE & FRINGE BENEFITS The twelve month salary range is $37,891 - $40,259. Health, life, and income protection insurance are provided. An excellent retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System and generous paid leave time are also furnished. In addition, full time employees have free use of the college's recreational/fitness facilities in Kilgore and tuition scholarships are available for the employee and dependent children.
