Electronic Resources Systems Librarian

Radford University seeks an accomplished, innovative, and proactive Librarian to join the library technology team in the design, delivery, and maintenance of a leading-edge information technology infrastructure as Professional Faculty in support of the University Library's mission. This professional faculty position will assist in the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of a robust information technology platform. 

DUTIES:
Manage technical aspects of electronic information resources including e-serials management, XML and metadata encoding, authentication, and related technical issues. Responsible for assisting in managing comprehensive content-linking/resolution service technologies at the article level.  Work as part of a team to provide ongoing access to the online collections, including troubleshooting problems arising from access-related technical issues including link resolution and (future) federated searching.  Collaborate in workflow analysis, operational changes and documentation of procedures and policies.  Assist in strategic planning and in evaluating and recommending services, products and projects.  Provide instruction, documentation, and assistance in problem solving for library IT applications.   Participate in Collection Development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:  Knowledge of technical/administrative issues associated with electronic resources.   Knowledge and understanding of electronic publishing; demonstrated ability to manage technical projects in a library setting; demonstrated commitment to customer service and collaborative approaches; ability to work independently, managing a complex workload in an on-time, effective manner with minimum supervision; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work well as part of a team.

Master's in Library Science or equivalent degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with electronic standards such as OpenURL and DOI and electronic resource related initiatives such as SUSHI, COUNTER, License Expression, etc.  Knowledge of computer networks, library automation systems, server management, UNIX,  XP/Vista, Win200X, HTML, CSS, javascript, and a variety of office and internet applications.  Strong evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies to enhance library services.  Experience in intranet design and management.

Prefer 2 to 3 years experience in some aspect of electronic resource management including:  experience with SFX and/or SerialsSolutions; Innovative Interfaces ERM, HTML and web editing tools (e.g., Dreamweaver); developing / maintaining e-resource management tools.  Demonstrated experience using database management programs (e.g., Microsoft Access); knowledge of trends in resource connectivity (e.g., XML, COUNTER, SUSHI).  Experience with reports tools such as MS Access or SQL. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.

Professional Faculty are twelve month, non-tenured faculty with responsibilities for university service and professional development/contribution.
