Center at San Antonio
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) is
inviting applications for an Executive Director of Libraries. The
Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic direction and
leadership in establishing the UTHSCSA Library as the primary source for
accumulated knowledge and information for the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio. The Executive Director assures collections,
programs, projects and services of the Library support the mission and
goals of the university. The position has overall responsibility for all
functions of the Library and its branches, which service all schools and
campuses. The position provides leadership to, and works closely with,
advisory groups and patrons to ensure the proper level and mix of
holdings, products and services; maintains a strong understanding of
relevant evolving technologies; provides leadership in the collaboration
with state, regional and national libraries; and collaborates with UTHSCSA
schools and campuses and other partners in the delivery of, and research
in, knowledge management and informatics offerings. The University of
Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is among the nation's leading
University research centers. The four primary missions - education,
research, patient care and community service - are carried out within five
schools: School of Medicine, Dental School, School of Nursing, Graduate
School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Allied Health Sciences
with affiliated campuses in Laredo, Harlingen, and Edinburg. There are
approximately 3000 students enrolled in 41 degree and certificate
programs. A special mission of the University is to serve the education
and research needs of South Texas. San Antonio, home of the Alamo and the
Riverwalk, is a very hospitable place to live. It has great schools, a
diverse community and culture, interesting history, as well as cultural
activities, professional sports, and outdoor recreation in the beautiful
nearby Texas Hill Country.The position requires an ALA-accredited Master's
degree in Library/Information Science along with a minimum of eight years
of demonstrated innovative, effective and progressive administrative
leadership, preferably in an academic health sciences library. A Doctorate
in a related area is preferred. The individual should have an excellent
track record of leadership, innovation, and collaboration, research and
publication along with a commitment to involvement in the profession. A
strong service ethic with excellent written and oral communication skills
is essential. The Executive Director must also have a proven ability to
manage personnel, complex finances and have successful fund raising
experience. Knowledge of emerging trends in library information services
and technology is crucial. A faculty appointment is possible with a
