Coastal Carolina University is a public mid-sized, comprehensive liberal arts-oriented institution. The University is located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort Myrtle Beach, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. It has an enrollment of 8,400 students and is expected to have continued growth for the next several years. A major expansion and renovation of Kimbel Library, including addition of a University Archivist, is planned for the near future. Coastal Carolina University is a part of the South Carolina system of public education and has close ties with its founders, the Horry County Higher Education Commission.The Executive Director is the senior administrative officer of the University's Kimbel Library and Instructional Technology Services and reports directly to the Provost. This position is responsible for the leadership, organization, administration, operation, and evaluation of library and instructional technology services, physical facilities, faculty and staff, collections, and budgets. In concert with faculty, staff, and students, the Executive Director promotes the educational objectives of the University by leading the development of a shared vision of how the Library and Instructional Technology Services serve the University community. A particular emphasis of the position shall be enhancing the development of the library as a center for learning, enhancing its collections, and integrating new technologies in support of scholarly communication and learning. This position actively represents the Library and University in local, regional and national library and instructional technology organizations. The successful candidate should have: an ALA-accredited Master's degree in library and information science; proven leadership and administrative abilities in an academic setting; demonstrated experience with Library operations, technologies and online systems; a minimum of seven (7) years successful experience in an administrative position in a college or university library; and demonstrated knowledge of both instructional design principles and learning technologies and their application to instruction in a university setting. Preferred qualifications are: a doctorate or a second master's degree, preferably in the area of instructional technology or related fields; previous experience as a director of a college or university library; experience in research and scholarly activities on library related issues; experience with university and community partnerships; and experience with fundraising and grants.The Committee will continue to accept applications and nominations until the position is filled.
