Dean, University Library --  University of the Pacific -- California
 

University of the Pacific seeks a dynamic and innovative leader for the
position of Dean of the Library. The Dean provides leadership to the
library personnel and overall management of its resources, programs, and
services on the Stockton campus. The Dean works closely with faculty and
administration in planning and provides leadership for the achievement of
the Library goals consistent with the mission of the University. The Dean
supports the Library and University through fundraising, public relations,
and communications with University and external stakeholders. The Dean
reports directly to the Provost, is a member of the Council of Deans, and
may be a position with faculty rank, tenure-eligible. 
The University Library is committed to supporting the information fluency
development of students and the teaching and research needs of faculty.
The Library delivers services from both the William Knox Holt Memorial
Library and the Health Sciences Branch. It is home to the internationally
renowned Holt-Atherton Special Collections, whose holdings include the
largest collection of original and rare works by John Muir and Dave
Brubeck. The library has 370,000 volumes, a 28-member staff and a $2.3M
budget. The main library building is 84,000 sf and was recently expanded
(in 2005) and partially renovated (in 2006); a project to complete the
restructuring and renovation is planned, pending additional funding. A
Multimedia Studio was opened in Fall 2006 and a Cafe in July 2007. For

The University of the Pacific is an independent, comprehensive university
offering undergraduate, professional, and graduate degrees to 6,251
students on three campuses. It offers a rare combination of
small-university camaraderie while still offering a breadth of
professional programs normally found only at larger universities. The
University's main campus is in Stockton, a culturally and ethnically
diverse city of more than 300,000 people, and part of the beautiful
central valley of California. Bordered by a thousand miles of delta
waterways, it is within a two-to-three hour drive of the Napa Valley, the
Lake Tahoe-Sierra region and Yosemite National Park. The Stockton campus
is 45 minutes from the University's McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento,
and 90 minutes from its Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San
