Learning Resources and Technology Services (LR&TS), St. Cloud State University (located 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul) invites applications for a LR&TS Associate Dean for Library Services. Type of appointment: Excluded manager, 12 month. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience (range $60,000 to $97,000). Date of Appointment: No later than Fall 2008. Responsibilities: The LR&TS Associate Dean for Library Services provides leadership in shaping the library's integral role in student learning. The library is housed in the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center, a facility that integrates information and technology resources to provide a wide range of state-of-the art services that make it a favorite space for students. The LR&TS Associate Dean for Library Services reports to the Dean of LR&TS and is responsible for library strategic planning, budgets, personnel, collections, instruction and information literacy, reference services, archives services and access services. The Associate Dean manages a budget in excess of $million; leads a staff of 17 professional librarians, 15 support staff, and student employees. All faculty librarians teach in the Center for Information Media and share reference and collection development responsibilities. The library collection consists of over 2.76 million items including 667,000 books, 1.3 million state and federal documents, 1800 print periodicals, 17,000 electronic periodical subscriptions, and 26,500 audio/visual items. Responsibilities include: Management: manage fiscal and personnel resources for library services; manage and oversee daily library operations; recruit and supervise employees within bargaining unit contracts; coordinate library facilities and space management; encourage professional development and growth of employees; foster a collaborative and congenial environment in which employees are valued; coordinate the development of unit policies and procedures. Collaboration: collaborate with others in management and leadership roles within LR&TS and on campus; facilitate team-building within and across library workgroups, promote services, coordinate communication in/out of the unit; build relationships and work with academic departments; collaborate and provide leadership within the library community. Planning and Development: participate in and provide leadership for the library in LR&TS strategic planning; coordinate the establishment of library priorities, goals, and work plans; participate in project design and management; encourage the development of grants and external funding; coordinate and participate in developing and establishing statewide library priorities. Professional Development and Service: keep up to date on collective bargaining contracts; keep up to date on trends in library services, including policy initiatives affecting libraries; three credits teaching or equivalent library service. Qualifications and Experience: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in Library or Information Science; second graduate degree; significant professional experience in an academic library; significant progressively responsible administrative and/or supervisory experience; a record of scholarly activity, service, and instruction. Preferred: earned doctorate; communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills appropriate for this level of management; experience resolving conflict; experience in managing personnel and budgets; knowledgeable about current trends in library services and information management in higher education.
