The Dean also implements library policy and helps shape library philosophy to meet the academic mission of the college. This faculty administrative position actively coordinates and advocates for the Library budget, is actively engaged in fundraising, supervises staff, and supports personnel development. As a member of the faculty, the Dean contributes to the lively academic work and scholarly agendas of the campus teaching community. This position also serves as primary liaison between Evergreen's library and the larger professional library world, including active participation in one of the nation's largest library consortia Orbis-Cascade Alliance--along with other local and regional library groups. The Dean is responsible for developing Library and Media Services to its fullest potential as a student-focused campus learning resource center. The Dean is central to the process that integrates Library and Media Services resources with our dynamic and interdisciplinary curriculum, with other academic support service areas, andfor maintaining active relationships with other institutions and groups. A successful candidate will be accessible and approachable, a good listener, and will evince a welcoming attitude with students, staff, and faculty. Minimum Qualifications: · 2 graduate-level degrees: A Master of Library Science (MLS or its equivalent) is preferred along with an advanced degree in an academic field. · 5 or more years experience as director/dean of an academic/research/special or public library, or as head of a significant unit within an academic/research/special or public library, or equivalent experience. · 2 years significant teaching experience at the college level. · 5 years experience in developing and managing large budgets. · 3 years significant experience with fundraising. Preferred Qualifications: · Detailed understanding of the work conducted by Library and Media Services staff and faculty is essential. · Experience with diverse staff and work environments. · Well developed and collegial supervisory abilities and time management skills, · Experience with long-range planning, and administrative follow through. · Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience with consensus decision-making processes and with effective conflict resolution methods.
