Director of Administrative Services --  University of South Carolina,
Columbia -- South Carolina
 













Library Administration: The University Libraries seeks an individual
for the position of Director of Administrative Services. Reporting to the
Dean of Libraries, this position will direct the Libraries' administrative
services including facilities management, human resources, security,
inventory control, statistical reporting, strategic planning, and
coordinate issues related to faculty status. This position will be part of
the senior administrative team that formulates policy and decision-making
for the Libraries. This is a twelve-month tenure track position. The
University of South Carolina, founded in 1801, enrolls approximately
18,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on the Columbia
campus. University Libraries contains more than 3 million volumes, 4
million microforms, 1 million manuscripts, 300,000 maps, and 875,427
government documents; and houses the University's special collections.
University Libraries is a member of SOLINET, OCLC, the Association of
Research Libraries, and the Center for Research Libraries.
Responsibilities: 1) Supervises personnel programs and services and
administers the human resources function for the University Libraries. 2)
Coordinates and manages the data collection and reporting of information
and statistics to local, state, and regional agencies. 3) Works closely
with the Libraries' senior administration on planning and assessment
documents such as the Libraries' annual report, the strategic plan,
reports to accrediting bodies and other required reporting documents. 4)
Coordinates planning for and supervises implementation for all library
facilities including renovations, repairs, signage, security, maintenance,
space planning and beautification efforts to provide learning space that is
appealing to the Libraries' users and work space that is functional for
library faculty and staff. 5) Participates with the Dean of Libraries and
administrative team in planning, policymaking and implementation, and
decision-making for the Libraries. 6) Represents the Libraries,
participates in university-wide initiatives, and works closely with campus
administrators in areas of assigned responsibility. Ensures Libraries'
compliance with university, system, and state policies and procedures. 7)
Supervises the Administrative office staff, building maintenance staff,
shipping and receiving staff and shuttle driver. 8) Liaison with USC
Educational Foundation regarding the management of Library accounts.
Qualifications Required: 1) An ALA-accredited MLS or another
appropriate graduate degree (MPA, MBA, etc.) with at least three years'
post-degree experience in increasingly responsible management positions in
an academic library or at an institution of higher learning. 2) Knowledge
of developments in higher education, scholarly processes and personnel
issues facing academic research libraries. 3) Demonstrated ability to work
collaboratively in a dynamic environment with a strong commitment to
diversity. 4) Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication
skills, interpersonal skills and superior organizational ability. 5)
Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, computer software
proficiency, creative and innovative problem-solving, and a strong
commitment to service excellence. Qualifications Preferred: 1)
Knowledge of faculty governance and tenure-track system and faculty
performance appraisal procedures. 2) Budget and financial management
experience. 3) Experience in grant development and administration. Salary
and Benefits: Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
