Library Director -- North Central College -- Illinois
Director of Library Services
North Central College, founded in 1861, is a selective, comprehensive
liberal arts institution of 2,500 students, located in Naperville,
Illinois, among the Midwest's most desirable communities, 30 miles west of
Chicago's Loop. (For details, visit http://www.noctrl.edu.) Since 1992, the
College has been one of a handful of liberal arts institutions with an
endowed Library Directorship. Carolyn Sheehy, North Central's first Clare
and Lucy Oesterle Library Director, will retire in fall 2008, after 18
years of distinguished service. The College invites applications for the
Director of Library Services who will serve as her successor. That
individual will have significant knowledge of and experience with
informational technologies, and will be a creative and dynamic leader who
can build upon the Library's reputation for excellent service, while
advancing a vision to meet the changing needs of students, faculty and
staff in the 21st century. The Director of Library Services reports
directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty,
and the ideal candidate will be eligible for the prestigious Clare and
Lucy Oesterle Endowed Chair. Required qualifications include a Master's
Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution, at least
five years of administrative and supervisory experience in an academic
library, and demonstrated knowledge and experience with advance
technologies related to library services. Please send a letter of
