Position Announcement – Tenure Track Library Faculty - Luhrs

 

Library Faculty – G. B. Luhrs Library

 

The Library Department at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania seeks applicants for a tenure-track fulltime (nine-month contract) faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2008. 

 

Work schedule will correspond to the Elementary School calendar.  Discrepancy between the University and the School calendar will be remunerated with a Summer School contract. (Three to five weeks are typical.)

 

The person holding this position will be primarily responsible for the coordination of the Luhrs elementary library media center program.   The incumbent will participate in instruction for Elementary School and University students, faculty, and administrators in the use of library services and resources. This includes coordinating with the Elementary School Director and faculty and the Shippensburg School District faculty.  The incumbent will also have Library Department service responsibilities including teaching in the library’s instructional program, participating in outreach efforts, and collaborating closely with classroom faculty.  Weekend and evening work will be required.

 

An M.L.S. from an ALA accredited institution is required.  The incumbent must also be able to meet Pennsylvania elementary teacher/librarian certification and pass the PA Act 34 and Act 151 background clearance checks.  Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of three years of elementary school experience

 

an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree from an accredited institution is required for tenure. (ABD at time of hire may be considered.)

 

A demonstration of teaching effectiveness will be required as part of the interview.
