The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire seeks a Head, Library Systems, a
probationary tenure track faculty position beginning February 1, 2008.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
*	ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent 
*	Server administration experience 
*	Familiarity with SQL,Visual Basic 
*	Professional experience managing an automated library system 
*	Documented evidence of successful management of web and systems
projects 
*	Knowledge of library web design and scripting languages
(Examples include HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, XML, JavaScript) 
*	Demonstrated commitment to professional development and
potential to meet the library's tenure and promotion requirements 
*	Excellent organizational , interpersonal  and oral and written
communication skills 
*	Demonstrated commitment to public service 
Preferred:
*	Academic library experience 
*	In-depth understanding of technological trends and developments
in academic libraries 
*	Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems 
*	Experience with SFX and MetaLib 
*	Experience with ILLIAD and other electronic information loan
software 
*	Familiarity with remote patron authentication (EZProxy) 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to supporting day-to-day library operations, this position
is responsible for managing the information technology resources of the
Library to maximize their positive impact on teaching, learning and
research for the students, faculty and staff of the University.  The
Head, Library Systems oversees all aspects of the Library's Integrated
Library System (ILS - Endeavor/Ex Libris' Voyager) and develops gateways
to other information resources, including the Library's electronic
resources, institutional repositories and web presence.  The position
also provides technical and programming expertise in installing,
troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading system software and in
performing critical operations such as extracting/loading data.  Working
closely with other librarians in a collegial environment, the successful
candidate will provide vision and leadership in the investigation and
implementation of emerging information technologies.
 
Duties include:
*         Supports the mission of the Library by providing technical and
operational support for all library systems, software and hardware,
including the Library's server (SUN Solaris) and personal computers.
*         Manages, configures and maintains the library's electronic
resources.
*         Serves as lead administrator for the Library ILS (Endeavor/Ex
Libris Voyager) and is responsible for all aspects thereof, including
the development and maintenance of interfaces between Voyager and other
systems, integration of locally developed and third party applications
with Voyager, and functional support for all Voyager modules and
creation of SQL-based custom reports.
*         Serves as the library web site manager, overseeing the site's
technical aspects and ensuring consistency with the University web site.

*         Develops and implements new Web based applications,
dynamically-driven web content and user interfaces. 
*         Coordinates planning for and delivery of online library
systems.
*         Manages, configures and maintains the library's electronic
resources.
*         Collaborates with colleagues in investigating, evaluating,
recommending and implementing emerging information technologies to
improve service.
*         Develops training and documentation for library systems as
needed.
*         Hire, supervise and review systems staff (1 FTE).
*         Serves as library/systems liaison to appropriate committees.
*         Fulfills faculty responsibilities.
 
MCINTYRE LIBRARY:
McIntyre Library has a collection of over 547,000 titles and 2 million
volumes, including:  200,000 government documents, 17,700 online and
print periodical subscriptions.  The Library maintains a very active
information literacy program, provides access to a wide range of digital
resources and is a selective state and federal document depository.
