The Metadata Librarian/Archivist is responsible for metadata and authority control, student hiring and supervision, quality control, and other duties related to the description of digital resources as a part of the New Georgia Encyclopedia (http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org ) metadata initiative at the Digital Library of Georgia (http://dlg.galileo.usg.edu/).
The Metadata Librarian/Archivist reports to the Assistant Director of the Digital Library of Georgia and works as a member of the DLG's Metadata and Site Development unit and in association with the New Georgia Encyclopedia staff. The position is funded through a 2-year “We the People” grant awarded to the Georgia Humanities Council by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The New Georgia Encyclopedia is the first state encyclopedia designed exclusively for publication on the Internet. NGE provides an accessible, authoritative source of information about people, places, events, historical themes, institutions, and many other topics relating to the arts, business and industry, cities and counties, education, folk life, government and politics, history and archaeology, land and resources, literature, media, religion, science and medicine, sports and recreation, and transportation in Georgia . NGE is a project of the Georgia Humanities Council, in partnership with the University of Georgia Press , the University System of Georgia/GALILEO, the Office of the Governor, and the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education.
