Digital Collections Program Coordinator

2 Year Term Appointment with possibility of renewal
The Digital Collections Program Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and project management for the library’s digital collections program, which involves work by staff in multiple departments to select materials for digitization and to create, maintain, publish, and preserve digital materials.

Responsibilities

• Leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the library’s digital collections program; chairs the Digital Collections Working Group.
• Working with staff in various departments, assesses the technical feasibility of proposals for digital collections, develops proposals into full work plans, and estimates the resources needed to implement these plans.
• Manages projects to produce digital collections, coordinating the work done in various departments, ensuring adequate communication among staff involved in the projects, and keeping projects on schedule.
• Monitors national trends regarding digital collections and digital library initiatives, shares information with other staff as appropriate, and applies it to planning and program development at Duke.
• Identifies potential digital collections, seeking proposals from other library staff and advising them regarding the development of proposals.
• Develops grant proposals for digital collection projects.
• Responds to and assists faculty and other members of the university community who request assistance from the library in creating digital surrogates or collections from materials held by them or their departments or programs.
• Advises Collections Council regarding themes and strategies for the development of the digital collections program; promotes the library’s digital collections; evaluates the collections and their use.
• Working with staff in other departments as appropriate, plans, implements, and monitors external contracts providing digitization, metadata creation, or other services related to the digital collections program.

Qualifications

Education

Required: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences or an advanced degree in a closely allied discipline.

Experience

Required: Experience with digitization projects/initiatives; demonstrated strategic planning and project management skills; knowledge of current digital library technologies, standards, and best practices; experience with a variety of metadata and associated functional standards; knowledge of interfaces for online resources; familiarity with copyright, intellectual access and digital rights management issues; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; ability to provide leadership in a collaborative, shared decision-making environment; working knowledge of MS Office applications; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.
Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library; experience managing multi disciplinary teams and/or projects; successful experience with writing grant proposals and managing grant projects.

Salary and Benefits

Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. This appointment is for 24 months with possibility of renewal. Comprehensive benefits package includes 20 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental, disability and life insurance and support for professional development and training.
