Position:Under the general supervision of the Director of Library Technology, the Web Services Programmer develops Web applications and integrates Web 2.0 services to ensure the seamless delivery of online library resources and is primarily responsible for the development of application, Web Services, database backend, and integrated software 
solutions.   The Web Services Programmer (WSP) is responsible for 
writing, modifying, and debugging complex computer programs using Perl, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, XML, and other languages and protocols as needed. 
  The WSP applies systems analysis procedures, including consulting with users and vendor’s documentation, to determine software and system design specifications and utilizes structured programming techniques as well as knowledge of operating system and network configuration, programming and protocols to integrate programming requirements and objectives; provides project documentation and implementation plans; manages workflow; advises on overall technical system requirements; and ensures the successful completion of project-on-time and within budget. 
   Work is generally performed on campus and in an office setting, with occasional evening and weekend work required to meet operational needs.

Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience in programming web-based applications is required, preferably in a higher 
education setting.   MLS or equivalent, from an ALA-accredited program 
is preferred.  The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; project management experience, with a record of good time and fiscal management; knowledge and understanding of existing and evolving standards; programming and debugging experience with such languages as PERL, PHP, JavaScript and SQL in a LAMP environment; an understanding of database design and structures; and experience with HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS, XML, XLST. 
Must have an understanding of Web 2.0 programming standards and architecture; technical and vendor documentation and ability to maintain internal documentation; knowledge of network configuration, programming, and protocols.  Experience is preferred in developing applications in a academic library setting; working with freeware or open source applications, appropriate to an academic library environment; commercial and/or open source web content management systems; and developing applications to work with current Innovative Interfaces and ExLibris APIs.  The successful candidate will possess the proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team; work accurately with a high degree of attention to detail; prioritize and organize assignments; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, administration, patrons, and vendors; and be flexible in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment, with 
constant interruptions.    Some evening and weekend hours may be 
scheduled to meet operational needs; and occasional travel by car and air are required. (Evidence of degree(s) or certificate(s) required at time of hire.)

Salary and Benefits: The salary range is $4,170 to $8,536 a month. 
Starting salary placement will not exceed the beginning of the range.
