Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS)* has an immediate vacancy for an
OCLC** Services Librarian. This position is responsible for providing support
and training to WiLS Member library staff statewide on a variety of OCLC
products and services with the focus on cataloging, metadata, and the on-going
integration of OCLC's products and services with local automated systems.
Responsibilities are wide-ranging and require considerable computer skills as
well as the ability to communicate effectively with WiLS members. This position
serves as resource person for WiLS members, providing training, support and
leadership in the areas of: national and international descriptive, technical
and administrative metadata standards; integrated library system tables and
system application developments as they integrate with OCLC products; changes
in traditional cataloging, such as the shift from MARC/AACR2 to RDA and changes
in information organization; and strategies for integrating new technologies
and services into existing library workflows. The position is responsible for
on-going assessment of member training needs and for developing appropriate
responses to meet those needs including presentations, consulting and
contracting for outside expertise as necessary. The position requires some
travel including overnight. The position reports to the WiLS Director.
*WiLS is an independent organization based in Memorial Library, University of
Wisconsin-Madison, providing services in the areas of shared bibliographic
information, resource sharing, continuing education and training and other
cooperative activities relating to the changing nature of information
technology for all types of libraries in Wisconsin.
