LIBRARIAN
I - RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTION SERVICES LIBRARIAN
Under the direct supervision of the Research and Instruction Services
Supervisor, a person in this position performs professional duties including:
providing general reference and research assistance, and reader’s
advisory services to library patrons and staff; recommending selection of
reference and other adult materials for purchase; and performing a number of
related tasks necessary in carrying out the functions of the Reference
Department.. Reports to the Research and Instruction Services Librarian.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library program
accredited by the American Library Association preferably with at least one
year of library work in reference, either pre- or post MLS degree-or any
equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required
knowledge. Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate
from the South Carolina State Library. Must
possess a valid
Under direct supervision of the Chief of Headquarters Library Services,
a person in this position performs professional duties including: performing a
number of tasks necessary in supervising the functions of the Circulation
Department; providing general reference and research assistance and readers
advisory services to library patrons and staff; recommending selection of

opportunities for the entire system.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library
program accredited by the American Library Association, preferably with at
least up to one year of library work in circulation, reference, either pre- or
post MLS degree—or any equivalent combination of training and experience
which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability. Must possess or
qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South

LIBRARIAN
II - PROGRAMMING AND OUTREACH SUPERVISOR
Under the direct
supervision of the Information Services Manager, a person in this position
performs high-level professional duties including: supervising and coordinating
all adult programming; applying for, implementing, and evaluating grants
designed to serve adult library patrons; promoting library programs,
collections and services, providing in-depth reference, research, and
reader’s advisory services to library patrons and staff; assisting the
Information Services Manager with a variety of other planning and managerial
duties;; and acting as a coach and mentor for less-experienced
colleagues in the Information Services Department. Work is carried out with a
high degree of independent judgment and initiative. Reports to the Information
Services Manager.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library program
accredited by the American Library Association supplemented by at least three
to five years of relevant professional library experience (experience received
after the MLS), preferably in reference work-or any equivalent combination of
training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and
abilities. Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate
from the South Carolina State Library. Must
