Student Library Assistant –
Volunteer Voices Project
Digitization/ Processing/ Transcription
Locations statewide (
The Volunteer Voices Project, a statewide
collaborative digitization project, seeks qualified students to assist in
processing and providing access to the contributed historic materials.
Hours: 10-15 hours
per week; schedule is negotiable within our business hours.
Required Qualifications:
• College student (undergraduate
or graduate) in liberal arts or information science
• Strong
attention to detail
• Excellent
communication skills (written and verbal)
• Comfortable
working with computers and learning new software programs
• Must be able
to work independently
• Punctual and
reliable
• Interest in
Preferred:
• Prior
library work experience
• Ability to
read 19th Century handwriting
• Prior
experience using a flat-bed scanner
• Prior
experience handling rare or fragile materials
• Research
experience in a special collections library
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Under
limited supervision, scan selected archival materials, including letters,
diaries, photographs and other historic items
• Complete XML
records for historic manuscripts and archival materials
• Perform Quality
Control tasks on incoming records and files
• Create
full-text transcriptions of items scanned for the Volunteer Voices Project
• Other duties
as assigned
