Project Manager for Information Discovery

The Project Manager for Information Discovery is responsible
for
coordinating the development information discovery
framework for the
University of Texas Libraries <http://www.lib.utexas.edu/> .
This position will interact with
responsible staff in different library
units to develop
strategic directions and coordinate the discoverability of
library resources through existing and planned technical infrastructure
from
existing and emerging commercial or open source
discovery tools. Duties
include assisting with the
oversight and planning of records and files
related to
the University of Texas Google Books project. Providing strategic
leadership within the library on issues related to discovery
and the
integration of different resources and data
streams to promote a long-term
coherent strategy for
improving the functions of the networked library.
Provide regular collaboration and consultation with staff in multiple
units
and with library administrators on issues
surrounding information discovery
framework for the
University of Texas Libraries. This position will be
expected to keep abreast of national and campus discovery issues
interact
with vendors and national leaders in and
outside of the library community on
issues related to
discovery, information architecture, data integration, and
online information productivity tools.
The University of Texas operates
Innovative Interfaces online catalog,
circulation,
acquisitions, and cataloging modules; Ex Libris OpenURL,
federated search, and ERM modules; and utilizes D-Space, EZ Prozy,
and
Solaris servers.
The position reports to the Associate
Director for Research Services.
Working hours are Monday
through Friday,
8am to 5pm. Occasional holiday and
overtime work may be required.
Required Qualifications: Masters degree in Library or Information
Science
from an ALA accredited graduate program. Three
years¹ experience directly
participating in, or
administering, library discovery infrastructure such as
federated search tools, OpenURL resolvers, OPACs, Web-based search
systems,
and similar integrative or discovery
technologies. Experience with current
commercial and
open source discovery tools. Knowledge of developments within
the electronic information industry. Knowledge of current and
emerging
information standards, protocols, and
practices.
Preferred
Qualifications: Experience developing or implementing new
integrative approaches to discovery. Proven ability to assume a
strategic
role as an information architect charged with
improving the discoverability
of electronic resources
important to the campus community and with the
integration of these resources into personal workflows through the
utilization of existing technologies. Demonstrated excellent
analytical,
interpersonal, oral and written
communication skills. Demonstrated record of
accomplishment coordinating new programs across administrative
lines.
Demonstrated potential for leadership in
university, and national programs
and initiatives.
Experience with Information Technology in the higher
education or library environment. Ability to forge working
agreements on
complex assignments across units. Ability
to exhibit and foster flexibility,
exercise initiative,
communicate effectively with staff who may or may not
possess a technical background. Demonstrated excellent judgment.
Experience
completing projects within established
deadlines and budgets.
Salary and Benefits: $60,000 - $80,000 annually depending on
qualifications
and experience. No state or
local income tax. Standard state benefits
package
including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement

vision, life, and disability).
Deferred compensation and tax sheltered
annuity programs
also available.
