Position:  Bibliographer/Reference Librarian

Description: The Central Library at Vanderbilt University is seeking
an energetic professional to serve as Bibliographer/Reference
Librarian.  The position is responsible for selecting and managing
collections supporting graduate and undergraduate programs in Sociology
and Psychology.  Other responsibilities include faculty liaison in
assigned subjects, and collection development planning and budgeting. 
Bibliographers also provide scheduled reference desk service (including
some nights and weekends) and participate in a library instruction program
that includes a required freshmen writing seminar.  All professionals help
shape the development of collections and public services in an
increasingly digital environment.  The position reports to the Head of
Reference.
Qualifications: Required are a master's degree from an ALA-accredited
program; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work
in a collaborative setting; and the ability to embrace a rapidly changing
information environment.  Outstanding written and oral communication
skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with faculty
and students.  Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in
Sociology or Psychology and successful working experience in an academic
library, particularly in collection development or reference.
Environment: Vanderbilt University consists of ten schools and
colleges with an enrollment of over 11,000.  The University is served by
The Jean and Alexander Heard Library, which has a collection of over 3
million volumes and a staff of 210.  The Central Library is the largest
division in the Heard Library and serves undergraduate and graduate
education in the College of Arts and Science.  The Central Library
collection holds over 1.3 million volumes and the Library employs 29
full-time staff, including 14 professional librarians.  Vanderbilt is a
member of the Association of Research Libraries and SOLINET.  
Compensation: Salary minimum $39,000, commensurate with education and
experience.  Benefits are those applicable to exempt employees of

leave.
