Special Collections Librarian, Historical Collections --  Harvard Business
School -- Massachusetts
 

Library: Special Collections Librarian, Historical Collections. This
position is exempt from the overtime  provisions of the Fair Labor
Standards Act (FSLA.). Exciting opportunity to manage the ongoing
development, organization, and research use of the Kress Collection of
Business and Economics, (one of the premier economic history and
philosophy collections), early manuscripts collection dating from the 15th
to the 18th centuries, and all other printed materials collections in
Historical Collections.  Provides reference/research services to the
University and global research communities. Under leadership of Managing
Director, Knowledge and Information Assets, directs Historical
Collections' MARC cataloging activities. Provides bibliographic control of
materials in a range of formats and languages, using appropriate metadata
to produce high-quality, timely products for customer access.  Actively
contributes to development of exhibitions, digital collections, curriculum
support programs, and publications that encourage greater understanding and
use of the collections. Supervises Historical Collections cataloging staff,
including temp staff and interns. Participates in planning for
conservation/preservation needs of rare book, early manuscripts, and
printed materials collections. The Kress Collection of Business and
Economics is one of the premiere rare book collections in economic and
business history with imprints from the fifteenth through the nineteenth
century. The early manuscripts collection is primarily British and
European manuscripts ranging in date from the 1400s to 1800. Baker Library
holds an extensive grouping of primary resources in the history of business
and economics with a particular focus late 19th century and early 20th
century international business world. ALA-accredited M.L.S. and/or
equivalent. Formal training in rare book cataloging. Demonstrated
knowledge of and curatorial experience with rare books, historical printed
materials, early manuscripts and their curatorial issues. Four years'
progressively responsible professional and administrative experience in
rare books and special collections, including two to four years'
professional rare book cataloging. Knowledge of history of printed book in
West. Advanced  knowledge of online cataloging systems, authority record
creation and current national cataloging and metadata trends, issues and
standards. Experience providing excellent reference and research services
in special collections in academic, research, or special library. Evidence
of successful supervisory and project management experience. Analytical
skills; innovative problem-solving skills and commitment to use of
creative means of information access highly desirable. Knowledge of and
experience with rare book and early manuscripts
preservation/conservation. Subject knowledge of economic history and
philosophy and/or 18th and 19th European history highly desirable. 
Reading knowledge of French and German.  Demonstrated proficiency with
microcomputer applications and integrated library systems. Excellent
communication and planning skills; demonstrated initiative and a high
degree of receptivity to new ideas and different fields of study. Ability
to work within a team environment and to promote teamwork. Our
