Archivist --  Berry College -- Georgia
 
ARCHIVIST
Berry College seeks an archivist to manage, preserve and expand the
college archives and special collections within Memorial Library.
Responsibilities include appraising, collecting, organizing and preserving
publications by and about Berry, institutional historical documents and
other artifacts; developing finding aids for materials; providing
reference assistance to scholars researching college founder Martha
Berry's life and the institution's history; maintaining exhibits of
archival materials and some educational activities relating to
institutional history; and performing library reference services and
preservation functions in the library. The archivist supervises a
technical assistant and several student workers. This position is a
full-time 12-month appointment reporting to the Director of Memorial
Library. Minimum qualifications include a M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited
library school or an appropriate master's degree, and knowledge of the
theory and practice of all aspects of archives administration. Candidates
must possess excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication
skills, interact well with the public and library patrons, and work
harmoniously with co-workers. Preference will be given to candidates with
a minimum of three years experience in a college or university archives or
manuscript repository; membership in the academy of Certified Archivists;
experience using MARC AMC; a working knowledge of HTML and XML; and
experience in the techniques of oral history. Salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Review will begin August 31, 2007, and
