Web Librarian

Hours:
Full time, 40 hours per week
Includes nights and weekends as needed
Education:
Masters degree in Library Science from
an ALA
accredited school
Experience:
Web design experience including HTML coding required
Familiarity with Dreamweaver, Contribute, common web browsers, Flash,
Photoshop, Illustrator, and CSS required.
Experience with standard web programming/scripting languages such as
JavaScript, Perl, and PHP strongly preferred.
Experience with graphics and multimedia design preferred. Two years experience
as a professional librarian preferred and public library experience preferred.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of current and emerging web-delivery of library services. Knowledge
of web development and Internet technologies.
Understands and maintains awareness of changing technology. Ability to organize
work priorities.
The successful candidate is customer service oriented, possesses good
communication skills, enjoys working in a team environment and has a high
energy level.
Ability to work well with other staff members and customers as demonstrated by
a successful employment history.
Responsibilities:
Operates as an integral member of the eBranch team, under the direction of the
eBranch Librarian, planning, implementing, maintaining and delivering eBranch
services to the citizens of Harris
County .
Develops content for the website and intranet which may include link lists,
book lists, web pages, and blog posts.
Develops attractive, creative designs and graphics for online and offline use.
Administers online content using Dreamweaver, Contribute, FTP. etc.
Ensures efficient web site design to meet traffic demands and performance
levels.
Assists library staff, customers, and vendors in trouble-shooting web related
problems.
Monitors and evaluates new technologies for delivering web-based resources
through mailing lists, literature, and professional development activities.
Performs regular day-to-day maintenance of the public website and staff
intranet.
Provides reader's advisory and reference services through the Ask a Librarian
Service using email and chat.
Attends the Reference Librarian meetings.
Implements and interprets library policies and procedures for library customers
and staff.
Attends professional conferences, activities and staff meetings. and actively
serves on committees.
Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics.
Obtains a minimum of 20 training hours per calendar year.
Performs other work as needed.

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
Salary:
$3,600-$4,172 month
