Hunter Library seeks an innovative and highly motivated librarian with a
strong interest in emerging metadata schema to join its service-oriented
staff.  

The Metadata Librarian will play a major role in planning and
implementing projects including conducting needs assessment; exploring
new technologies in metadata applications; metadata schema adaptation;
developing standards, policies and procedures; training library staff
and partners to create and apply metadata. The Metadata Librarian will
create metadata using both emerging and traditional metadata schema.
This position will report to the Head of Cataloging and Acquisitions,
but will work in close collaboration with other library units.

The Metadata Librarian will be involved in ongoing projects such as the
Craft Revival project <http://craftrevival.wcu.edu/>  and encoding WCU
Special Collections finding aids in EAD, and will also be expected to
provide leadership in the development of new projects.  The Metadata
Librarian will also have some responsibility for cataloging traditional
library materials. 

Qualifications:  A Masters of Library Science from an ALA accredited
school is required.  Knowledge of one or more of the following metadata
standards:  Dublin Core, EAD, HTML, XML, MODS, etc.  Knowledge of AACR2,
MARC, LCSH and LC classification and OCLC.  Knowledge of integrated
library systems such as Innovative Interface's Millennium system.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively
with project teams.   Effective oral, written and interpersonal
communication skills.  An entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to seek
out and implement new initiatives. 

Preferred qualifications include experience with applying metadata
standards to describe digital collections; experience with CONTENTdm;
experience cataloging traditional library materials; and experience in
an academic library environment.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. Minimum salary is
$40,000. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track position with a generous
24 days of vacation leave annually. Choice of retirement plans includes
Fidelity, Lincoln, TIAA-CREF, VALIC, or the North Carolina State
retirement system.

Hunter Library shares an online catalog with two other university
libraries that comprise the Western North Carolina Library Network.
