Reports to Head, Collection Management and Special Services Department. Salary and rank commensurate with credentials and experience. Minimum annual salary $43,072 (Instructor); $49,484 (Assistant Professor). Duties: Administers Youth Collection of the Library, including supervising one Library Assistant and student employee. Provides reference assistance and research consultations within Collection. Provides library instruction to students/faculty in group sessions. Promotes the use and understanding of library services and resources by students and faculty in children's literature and reading through instruction and other means. Develops and maintains collection of children's and young adult materials and an associated reference collection in various formats. Serves as resource for schools and other educational agencies in the state. Serves as subject bibliographer and liaison for reading, library science, educational media/technology, and library professional materials. Participates in library and university committees and professional associations. Conducts a substantive program of research, scholarship, and/or creative work. Required: ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent earned by start date; Bachelor's or graduate degree in education; demonstrated knowledge of school curriculum, trends and issues in children's/youth literature; coursework and/or experience in school library media studies; demonstrated strong and effective written and oral communications skills; and demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Preferred: Experience as a classroom teacher at K-8 level. Demonstrated understanding of quality children and young adult literature and its place in the school program.
