Dear SIS Students,

As you near the end of the semester, you may be thinking about employment 
for the summer and 2007-08 school year.  Preservation, located in Hodges 
Library, has a wonderful opportunity.  The position is 20 hours per week 
at $10/hr.  Please see the following job description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: 		Graduate Student Library Assistant
Available:		May 7, 2007
Department/Unit:	Collection Development and Management / 
Preservation
Hours:	20 hours per week during the hours of 8 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday
Reports to:		Head, Collection Development

Primary Responsibilities 

This position is one of three that share responsibilities for commercial 
binding operations in the Preservation Office.  

Binding Preparation 
Organizes and prepares periodicals, serials, and monographs for the 
commercial bindery, based on type and location of material.  Assists with 
supervision of quality control inspection of the items upon return from 
the bindery.  Hires, trains, and supervises student library assistants.  
Collaborates with full-time binding staff to assist with workflow 
oversight.  Helps monitor supplies and orders new materials when necessary.

Other Responsibilities

When time allows, this positions offers opportunities to learn other areas 
of preservation, including processing, and book repair and conservation.  

Qualifications

Required
•	Bachelor’s degree
•	Enrolled in the University of Tennessee School of Information 
Sciences 
•	Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with 
colleagues and librarians
•	Attention to detail
•	Demonstrated ability to multitask and to assign appropriate 
priorities among projects
•	Experience with computer software applications, including MS 
Office programs
•	Excellent organizational skills
•	Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Preferred
•	Experience with integrated library systems
•	One year verbal commitment to working in Preservation
