Head of Basque Library --  Univeristy of NV Reno -- Nevada
 

The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a Librarian with a strong commitment
to public service to manage its internationally-known Basque Library. This
is a tenure-track library faculty position reporting to the Director of
Research Services. 
This position establishes goals, priorities, and policies for the Basque
Library.  The chosen candidate will develop, promote, and deliver
customized library services based on knowledge of Basque information
resources.  In-depth research assistance to on-campus users, including
visiting researchers from the Basque country and around the world, is a
major facet of this position. He/she will be expected to create and
promote positive relationships with the Basque diaspora, particularly the
Basque community in the United States.
The head Basque librarian position offers an excellent opportunity for a
serious Basque scholar to engage in research, publication, and service
activities as well as working with an established library staff to
articulate goals, policies, and service objectives to the university
community and other clientele.
The University of Nevada, Reno is Nevada's major research institution with
a student body of over 16,000, located on the eastern edge of the Sierra
Nevadas only thirty-five miles from Lake Tahoe.
Qualifications include an ALA accredited MLS or equivalent international
degree in library science; two years of professional-level library
experience; ability to communicate orally and in writing with users,
vendors, project partners and co-workers in English and Spanish; potential
to meet requirements for university tenure and promotion.  Preference will
be given to candidates with strong commitment to innovative and effective
user-centered services; web development skills and knowledge of emerging
technologies; excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of the Basque
language and culture; knowledge of French; and supervisory experience.
Compensation: Salary range $46,305-$71,239 depending upon experience. 
TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 vacation days per year;
generous sick leave.  No state income tax or FICA.  Tuition and
educational benefits for self and family.
